ASSIGNMENT 3: Compose a 4-8 measure melody in common time using the FINALE music software.
Rubric for the composition (final) will be quite informal. The object is for the students to learn the skill of capturing their idea and working on Finale to put it in notation form. The length of composition will also be factored into the composition score.
a. For those students that cannot come up with an original idea – use the Standard of Excellence Books composition starter examples.
b. For proficient students, simple half-note or whole note block chord accompaniments may be added expanding the original one-line assignment to a grand staff.
c. Advanced students may compose a complete 4-8 measure melody that includes elaborate accompaniment.
I. Evaluation
a. Vocabulary definition – 20%
b. Journal reflection on melody capturing experience – 20%
c. Final composition - 40%
d. Journal reflection on the technology used for this project – 20%
